5 minutes with Chris Addy

It’s been a little while since our last ‘5 minutes with’ but we’re jumping straight back in with another 1-2-1, this time with Project Director; Chris Addy.

What’s the focus of your role?

As project director, it's my job to lead my teams to successfully deliver projects to our clients. Quality of delivery is always number one on the agenda and I make sure my staff have everything they need to get the best possible result.

We constantly have new projects coming through the business. As such, I’m frequently up and down the country, liaising with clients and supporting my team.

Tell us about your journey with Medlock?

Many moons ago, I was working as a joiner and did some agency work for Medlock on a pub fit-out.  After doing frequent work for them over the years, I finally settled within the company, taking on a role as a working foreman and site manager.

I was taken in by the company’s ethos and work ethic, so when the opportunity came along to move up the ladder to project manager, I grabbed it with both hands. After working diligently in this role for the best part of a decade, I came to my current director-level position in January 2019.

One of the great things about Medlock is that good work is recognised and paid back to you with trust and career progression. I’ve always been motivated to do the best work possible but it’s always great when your employer makes a point of incentivising that passion.

What do you enjoy about working at Medlock?

Two things come to mind: working with the team and the work we do for clients.

In terms of its people, Medlock is a special place. Everyone is on the same team and while we have a laugh and a joke, we’re completely focused on delivering the best work possible. I’m of the mind that you share your wins with the people around you and I couldn’t ask for a better team to work with.

When it comes to our projects, the sheer variety and scope of the work we get to do keep the job continually stimulating. There’s never any time to stop and twiddle your thumbs. Once one project is delivered, you’re on to the next and the whole cycle starts anew. This can come with its stresses, but because of my love for the work and the team I’ve got around me, coming to work every morning is truly rewarding.

What does Medlock mean to you?

As a brand and company, I’ve completely bought into Medlock. Their work ethic, their attitude towards their people and the emphasis on doing the best work possible for clients is now ingrained in my DNA.

From a personal perspective, it’s allowed me to get what I want from life. Every day I come home with a sense of satisfaction about the work I’m doing. That feeling is what spurs me on and acts as the backbone of my everyday working life.
