Medlock is a people business. Whether it's our staff, our clients, supply chain or community, everything we do is empowered by strong relationships and our track record of attracting the best people to the right positions.

As part of our ‘5 minutes with…’ series, we get to know some of the people who make Medlock the force it is. This month, we’re talking to our Health, Safety and Environmental Manager; Lisa Hall.

What’s the focus of your role?

I’m the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, which means I oversee all aspects of those subjects across the business. It's my job to make sure every project is completed safely, that our staff and contractors are well informed, and their wellbeing is regularly considered and maintained. I also ensure our work respects the environment and the communities our projects take place in.

Tell us about your journey with Medlock

I joined Medlock in 2018 as their HSE manager. Over the few years that I’ve been here, the role has grown and evolved to encompass more aspects of the business.

HSE touches everything we do. That’s why I work closely within our project teams, with subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure everyone is kept safe. I get a sense of pride from the work we do and I’m deeply motivated to make sure every aspect of our business operates safely.

What do you enjoy about working at Medlock?

The culture at Medlock makes it a special place to work. While there is a deep sense of professionalism and a drive to deliver the best projects for our clients, there’s also an atmosphere of good humour and togetherness. To me, these two things go hand in hand. Because our team is so positive and supportive, it naturally reflects in the quality of the work we do.

The thing about Medlock is that our company values are not just something fancy written on our website. We actively live those values from the top down. We’re all about our people: not just our employees, but our clients, our supply chain, and the wider community. By prioritising those relationships and giving our people the support they need to excel in their roles, we can deliver projects with passion and commitment.

What does Medlock mean to you?

Medlock takes their responsibility to its staff and the environment seriously. They not only empower me to do my job, but they emphasise the importance of always seeking improvement, no matter how good we are. This constant striving to be better is something that resonates with me and motivates me to be the best possible HSE manager. Working with Medlock is a great source of pride for me and each day I come to work invigorated to deliver our best work.

What keeps you busy outside of work?

As well as being a passionate family woman, I love taking part in charity-sponsored events. At Medlock, we’re currently training for the three-peak challenge in September, where we’ll be raising money for the Lighthouse Club. Later on in the year, I’m facing up to my fear of heights and doing a sponsored skydive for the ABF Soldiers Charity.

Anything, where you can have a bit of fun while raising money for a worthy cause, is great in my eyes.
