Red Lion reaches the halfway point

10 October 2019

The overhaul of the Red Lion in Malpas is picking up pace, as the programme reaches the halfway point. The project consists of the refurbishment and extension of the existing Red Lion Hotel public house, construction of a new-build hotel element and refurbsihsment of an existing bakery and Grade II listed Tudor cottage to deliver more bedrooms and breakfast room facilities. The existing pub has been completely stripped back, with only three of the existing facade walls remaining. The construction of internal walls is well underway, following the existing floor plan of the building. The extension, almost tripling the floor plan of the building is also well underway with the steel frame of the function room to the rear already complete. The team will continue with the entire public house expected to be watertight in November, allowing the internal fit-out to commence.

The new-build timber frame has completed to the hotel element with the fit-out well underway. Refurbishment of the existing bakery has also begun which will be slightly extended and bolted onto the new-build element. A total of 15-bedrooms will be delivered in total. Renovation of the Grade II listed Tudor cottage is also well underway with breakfast toom facilities and additional bedrooms.

The project is due to complete in February 2020.
