Medlock delivers new community hub at Station South

Medlock has completed the restoration and renovation of Levenshulme’s Station South. The former Victorian Railway station closed back in 1958 but is set to find a new lease of life as a café, urban garden and active travel hub.

Situated on the Fallowfield Loop, a picturesque, eight-mile urban greenway, the venue serves as a reminder of the loop’s previous life as a railway line while taking on a new purpose at the centre of the community.

Delivering the project for a grassroots social enterprise group, Medlock has created a new kitchen area, installed flooring, drainage, toilets and an inviting seating area. To emphasise the venue’s green location, Medlock opened the back of the station to create views of the cycle path going under the building. The original archway entrance and ceiling have been maintained to preserve the building’s unique character and historic features.

Since the inception of the project, it's received funding from over 1000 backers, including the Railway Heritage Trust and Manchester City Council.

The new Station South is set to open in the Spring.
