Medlock is thrilled to share details of a recent refurbishment and extension project undertaken at the David Lloyd Trafford health club.
This ambitious project involved revitalising key areas of the facility, including the fitness and leisure spaces along with the dining and social hubs. A particular highlight was the creation of a top of the range spa garden which transformed an underutilised parcel of land into a luxurious retreat.
This project represented our first major collaboration with David Lloyd Clubs and its proximity to our Manchester HQ made it especially meaningful.
The crown jewel of the project is undoubtedly the new spa garden. Designed to provide a seamless indoor-outdoor wellness experience, this space features an array of premium amenities including a relaxation pool, cold plunge pool, Finnish sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, ice cave and a hydro pool. The fire-and-ice experience adds a dynamic element, encouraging users to alternate between contrasting thermal zones for maximum rejuvenation.
Inside the main club we refurbished the swimming pools and modernised the gym floors. The fitness studios, including spaces dedicated to spin, yoga, and group fitness, were upgraded with state of the art flooring, lighting and acoustic systems to enhance member experience.
The club room restaurant was given a contemporary new look, blending comfort and sophistication to create a welcoming environment for post work out socialising and dining. Adjacent to the restaurant we introduced a flexible workspace hub which is a growing demand among members looking for professional grade facilities in a relaxed setting.
Elsewhere we revitalised the DL Kids Club with a striking new interior scheme that is vibrant, engaging and functional. This space now serves as a dynamic environment for children to play, learn and connect further enhancing David Lloyd’s family friendly ethos.
The primary challenge for the project team was managing the delivery of the works in a live trading environment. Detailed works scheduling ensured that different phases of the project could proceed in tandem without disrupting the club’s ongoing activities and encroaching on the members accessibility.
The spa garden has quickly become a highlight, drawing both existing and new members, while the revamped fitness, dining, and family areas have significantly enhanced the overall member experience.
This project has set a high benchmark for our ongoing partnership with David Lloyd Clubs and demonstrates our capability to deliver complex, high-profile projects within the live environment.
