Historic Manchester mill to get a new lease of life
25 January 2021
Beside Rochdale Canal sits the Grade II listed Victoria Mill. Once a cotton-spinning mill, the six-storey building - with its glorious views of the Pennines and Manchester’s skyline - has since become a residential living space and Medlock is here to bring it to life once again. The Medlock team is delighted to be on-site working on this stunning, historic building - our first major mill conversion. We have taken on the residential development and are planning to create a total of 85 apartments, along with some office space.Once at the heart of the industrial revolution, the historic mill was designed by Geroge Woodhouse of Bolton and built for William Holland of the Adelphi Mill, Salford. Constructed in two phases in 1869 and 1873, the mills were in use up until 1960 before being restored in the 1990s. Described as “a building of great presence and a landmark in the area", Victoria Mill features a characteristic chimney and two symmetrical mill blocks separated by an engine house. With an aim to finish by August, the team will be hard at work on five of the six floors in the mill, as well as completing minor external and basement works. At the top of our priorities is ensuring compliance with the building regulations to protect this Grade II listed building, adhering to any relevant planning conditions. We’ve got a busy year ahead of us, and Victoria Mill is sure to keep us on our toes. Keep an eye on our news for more information about this project as it develops. If you’re like us, you won’t be able to wait to see what’s in store.
