The Lion, Malpas
Client: Bear Inns
Architect: RADM Architects
Value: £3.2m
“A quintessentially British inn, The Lion serves traditional pub classics with a modern twist. And we let this guide our approach to the development and fit-out of the new spaces.”
This project was a major development for the beautiful Cheshire village of Malpas, where we brought new life to The Lion pub for our client Bear Inns.
After standing empty for several years, the original pub needed a complete strip out, remodelling, and extension. The main building now has three times the floor space it used to have. With all this extra space, we’ve completely remodelled the interior, adding a luxurious function suite, while also improving the exterior. Guests can now enjoy a beautifully ambient garden courtyard at the pub’s rear. There’s nowhere better for a relaxing evening drink or light bite.
Our work also included the refurbishment of a Grade II listed Tudor cottage at the same location. Breathing new life into the space, guests will now find stunning two-storey bedroom accommodation and a guest dining space.
And finally, opposite the cottage, our skilled team has delivered a brand new development of 16 serene, well-appointed bedrooms.
A quintessentially British inn, The Lion serves traditional pub classics with a modern twist. And we let this guide our approach to the development and fit-out of the new spaces. The refreshed location fits in beautifully with the peaceful and historic village of Malpas, offering a wonderful overnight escape in this quaint location.
Across the whole site, we kept the accommodation and communal spaces fresh, modern, and atmospheric. With close attention to detail and staying true to the feel of the original buildings, we’ve created home-away-from-home spaces that we’re sure all guests and visitors will love.
Supposed to be a nine-month project, COVID-19 certainly had other plans for this one. But, as always, the Medlock team came together and teamwork pushed this project through to fruition!
We’re beyond happy with the results of this large-scale project. It feels great to breathe life back into such a wonderful location. And we’d like to thank our hardworking team and everyone else involved for moving this project along and helping us achieve these fantastic results!
